In the small town of Trussville, Alabama, a local family discovered their five-year-old child unresponsive in a laundry hamper at home on the morning of November 13, 2023.
In response, the Trussville Police Department, along with other local authorities, has launched an investigation into the accident, which is being treated as an accidental death.
The incident occurred in the Hawk Ridge neighborhood of Trussville around 6:30 a.m. Khloe Teresa Williamson was discovered by her family members and was immediately rushed to St. Vincent’s East Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, by the Trussville Fire and Rescue team. Despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead at the hospital at 7:17 am
Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates and Trussville Police Chief Eric Rush both stated that the preliminary autopsy found no signs of trauma or foul play, leading them to consider the death accidental. The exact cause of death is still pending further laboratory studies, including a toxicology report.
The loss of Khloe, described as a “precious, smart, and inquisitive child,” has deeply affected the local community. Dr. Patrick Martin, Superintendent of Trussville City Schools, confirmed that Khloe was a kindergarten student in the district and the daughter of a teacher. He expressed profound sorrow and extended thoughts and prayers to the family in his statement. He highlighted that the school system is more than an educational institution – it is a family that feels the impact of such a loss deeply.
Counselors are being arranged to be on-site to provide necessary assistance in coping with the grief. As the investigation continues, the community holds onto the memory of Khloe, remembering her as a bright and curious child whose life was tragically cut short.
