On Sunday, November 12, 2023, a child was killed, and four others were injured in a shooting at Cole’s Flea Market in Pearland, Texas.
The Pearland Police Department responded to the call of shots fired at approximately 5:30 pm.
Upon arrival, law enforcement officers discovered a chaotic scene with five people wounded.
The shooting began following an altercation between two individuals, possibly three, who did not previously know each other. The dispute quickly escalated, leading to an exchange of gunfire inside the market. The precise cause of the argument remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing.
A 10-year-old boy died from his injuries after being transported to a local hospital. A 14-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy were wounded, as well as 18 and 37-year-old males. All were taken to the hospital. Investigators are attempting to determine if the 16 and 18-year-olds were involved in the shooting; the others were bystanders.
In the wake of the shooting, the Pearland Police Department (PD) has intensified its search for the suspects. One suspect, who is not in custody, David Negrete, 19, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The Pearland PD has emphasized that this incident appears to be an isolated event stemming from an altercation between the two individuals and was not a targeted attack on the market itself.
Authorities are offering a $15,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest of the suspects.
