A young boy, Jeremy Diaz, aged six, has died following a violent home invasion that occurred two months ago.
The assailant, identified as 39-year-old neighbor Daniel Logan, entered the Diaz home and randomly attacked Jeremy with a baseball bat while he was asleep on September 11.
The assault resulted in Jeremy suffering critical injuries, including extensive skull fractures and brain swelling.
Logan’s mother, 65, who attempted to protect Jeremy, was also severely injured during the incident.
After a hopeful 60 days of slow recovery in the hospital, Arturo Diaz, Jeremy’s father, shared the traumatic experience of finding his critically injured son, enduring a neurostorm – a severe response to brain trauma. Jeremy initially showed signs of improvement but later deteriorated and passed away on November 14.
Initially, Logan faced serious bodily injury and aggravated assault charges. Following Jeremy’s death, these charges will be upgraded to capital murder, pending a medical examination by Travis County officials.
Held on a $650,000 bond, Logan has received a mental health evaluation. His lawyer, Marc Chavez, stressed the importance of considering Logan’s mental health status in the legal proceedings.
Jeremy, remembered by his family as a lively and engaged child, enjoyed activities such as jiujitsu, soccer, and piano. His father, Arturo Diaz, expressed profound grief over the loss, noting the heartbreak of outliving one’s child. The family held a memorial service in a local church.
