Police have confirmed that a 32-year-old mother of two, Jonnie Angel Klein, was fatally shot at an ATM drive-thru outside a Chase bank in Worth, Illinois.
The incident, which occurred on November 5, 2023, resulted in first-degree murder charges against Tamara Jailynn Johnson, 22, and Jason Jerry Joseph Johnson, 23, from Harvey, Illinois.
The shooting of Klein led to the identification and subsequent charging of the Johnsons. They are believed to be involved in a series of armed robberies in the Chicago area and Northwest Indiana. Police investigations linked them to Klein’s shooting through evidence that included firearms.
Klein, engaged in a routine ATM transaction, was withdrawing money for bill payments when the armed robbery turned deadly. A car with the suspects pulled up alongside Klein and during the robbery she was shot in the chest. She managed to drive a few blocks but was found dead in her car. Her family described her as a devoted mother and caretaker, juggling work and family responsibilities.
The investigation revealed the suspects’ link to multiple similar incidents, indicating a pattern of criminal behavior.
Klein’s death has resonated within her community. She was known for her hard work, supporting her family, including her 10-year-old daughter and 15-year-old son, and caring for her cancer-stricken mother.
