Young Offender Convicted in Texas Sonic Drive-In Shooting

The verdict was delivered on October 5 in Keene, Texas, finding a 13-year-old boy culpable in the murder of a 32-year-old individual employed at Sonic Drive-In.

This fatal incident unfolded back in May, set against the backdrop of the Sonic Drive-In’s parking lot.

The onset of the situation was due to Angel Gomez, the uncle of the boy, when he decided to urinate in the parking space. This act initiated a conflict with Matthew Davis, an employee of Sonic. As tensions rose, the young boy, positioned in the car’s back, accessed an AR-style firearm. In quick succession, he discharged several bullets towards Davis, inflicting deadly injuries.

In the aftermath, the duo of Gomez and the boy, who was then age 12, quickly departed from the locale. However, Gomez, 20, reappeared at the incident site and was taken into custody on a warrant related to the murder. Following a comprehensive search operation, law enforcement agents detained the boy in a town close by.

The age of the accused led to widespread interest in the trial. The jury’s verdict indicated that the boy was involved in delinquent conduct, a juvenile justice term that mirrors a guilty judgment in adult legal proceedings.

The tragic end of Davis has created ripples in the local populace, with many communicating their shock and sadness. A determination regarding the boy’s sentencing is pending and will be made by the juvenile court, with potential outcomes spanning from probation to an extended period of detention.

Angel Gomez, connected to this case, is currently waiting for his trial to commence. The court’s records have shown Gomez is accused of tampering with or manufacturing false evidence.
