Three people, including a three-year-old child, died in a shooting incident at an apartment complex in Jacksonville, Florida, on Saturday, September 24, 2023.
The authorities have traced the roots of the incident back to a potential disagreement over a dog sale. The local police were alerted to the situation at an apartment located in the 8800 block of A.C. Skinner Parkway, Jacksonville, at around 10:00 p.m., following reports of shots being fired.
During a news briefing, Assistant Chief J.D. Stronko provided an account stating that five individuals had arrived at the apartment, possibly intending to sell a dog. A dispute broke out, and subsequently, four of them were shot. Three of these individuals, inclusive of the child, did not make it.
Information on the victims revealed that two were in their 20s, with the third’s identity not being released yet. Witnesses have given accounts of two males departing the location in what could be a black sedan, although their identities remain unconfirmed.
Kae’lynn Marie Matthews was identified as the child victim by local media outlets. Matthews’ grandmother reminisced about her love for school and playing hide and seek, also noting that the child was not a resident of the apartment complex in question.
Rachel, an inhabitant of the apartment complex, relayed her experience to the press. She remembered the chilling sounds of gunfire and the following screams. Speaking on the incident, she expressed her dismay, saying, “My thoughts are with the families.”
