On Thursday evening, October 19, in Hagerstown, Maryland, a Circuit Court Judge was found fatally shot in the driveway of his home, leading to an extensive statewide search for an individual connected to the crime.
Having served in Washington County’s 4th Judicial Circuit since January 2020, Judge Andrew Wilkinson, 52, was known for his dedication. In addition to his primary role, he fulfilled duties as an Associate Judge on the Washington County Circuit Court. Prior to this, his service as an assistant county attorney was commendable, and he actively participated in a range of community programs.
Pedro Argote, aged 49, has been identified as the principal suspect. Argote’s physical description is 5’7″ in stature, weighing around 130 lbs, with black hair and brown eyes. His transportation, a silver 2009 Mercedes GL450 bearing the Maryland license plate 4EH0408, was located in a wooded region close to Williamsport during the weekend.
Historical court interactions connect Argote and Judge Wilkinson. Judge Wilkinson had officiated over Argote’s divorce case that began in June 2022. Notably, on the day of the shooting, a judgment was rendered, granting full custody of Argote’s four children to his wife and setting a restriction against any contact with the children by Argote.
The primary reason for the shooting is yet to be ascertained.
To aid in the ongoing investigation, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office is actively seeking public assistance in finding Argote. They also caution the public against confronting Argote, emphasizing potential risks given his dangerous nature.
The loss of Judge Wilkinson has left a void for many. An attorney who had been involved in Argote’s divorce proceedings took a moment to remember Judge Wilkinson, pointing out his exemplary contributions in various capacities.
As the case unfolds, the community’s hope lies in a timely conclusion and ensuring justice prevails for Judge Wilkinson.
