For two years, the discovery of a man’s body in a London basement freezer has been the focus of local authorities. This man was later identified as Roy Bigg, who had been unaccounted for since 2012.
The remains surfaced when construction workers were working on a former wine bar on October 15, 2021.
Dental records were instrumental in ascertaining that Bigg was the individual found and that he was around 70 at the time of his passing.
Even with thorough investigations and multiple media appeals, the individual or individuals responsible for Bigg’s death are yet to be identified.
Detective Chief Inspector Kelly Allen mentioned that while they have amassed significant information on Bigg’s life, the public’s assistance remains crucial to zeroing in on the offender.
A prominent challenge in this case is the unavailability of any verifiable information about Bigg from 2012 to 2021. This time lapse means almost a decade of his life remains a puzzle. Given his long disappearance and the circumstances surrounding his discovery, it is hypothesized that Bigg’s body might have been in the freezer for a considerable duration. Yet, medical assessments have not confirmed a clear cause of death.
The site of discovery, a disused wine bar in Forest Gate, east London, attracted the attention of authorities. By tracing back Bigg’s activities and interacting with those familiar with him, they aim to discern the last instance he was observed alive.
As a measure to procure more insights and ensure justice for Bigg, the Metropolitan Police have declared a reward of £20,000. This amount is designated for anyone delivering information leading to the legal proceedings against the perpetrators of Bigg’s demise.
