In her recent memoir titled “Worthy,” actress Jada Pinkett Smith has shared many family details, one of the most notable being that she and her long-term partner Will Smith have been separated since 2016, even though they have often been perceived as a close couple in public.
To promote her book, Pinkett Smith has made numerous media appearances, sparking the crew of Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” (SNL) to feature her and her book’s details. On SNL, she was portrayed by comedian Ego Nwodim, who joked about how frequently the actress had appeared on the Today Show in the past few days.
During the segment, Michael Che, one of the hosts, asked about her relationship with Will Smith. In response, Nwodim’s Jada Pinkett Smith shared a humorous anecdote, saying that even during their wedding, someone objected to the union.
However, she quickly noted that, despite challenges, she and Will Smith have remained together for 23 years. She humorously stated that one of the secrets to their marriage was to “Never go to bed happy.”
When the topic of how they described their marriage came up, Michael Che referred to it as “brutiful” – a combination of brutal and beautiful. Nwodim’s Pinkett Smith responded with a light-hearted comment that some might refer to their relationship as “brunhealthy.”
During the conversation, Nwodim’s Pinkett Smith also expressed her desire to discuss rapper Tupac Shakur, even though he was not brought up by the host. She humorously stated how strong she felt after sharing personal details about her relationship in public.
The discussion shifted back to Will Smith’s comments on their relationship. When Michael Che mentioned that Will Smith described their union as “a sloppy public experiment in unconditional love,” the SNL actress clarified that this was a direct quote from their wedding vows.
