Firefighter Dies in Vehicle Crash on the Way to Fire

A Pennsylvania firefighter lost his life, and his girlfriend sustained injuries in a crash that took place on Friday, October 20, in Exton, Pennsylvania, during a response to an alarm.

The accident occurred in the midst of a heavy downpour. The vehicle, occupied by Colin Reedy and Emily Gindele, skidded off the road and collided with a tree. While Reedy, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries at the crash site, Gindele was admitted to a local hospital and is reported to be in critical yet stable condition according to reports.

Born in the Crimea region of Ukraine, the 25-year-old Reedy resided in Exton, Pennsylvania. He had recently started his journey as a volunteer firefighter with the West Whiteland Fire Company, where Gindele also volunteered. Apart from serving his community as a firefighter, Reedy was employed as a plumber at  Plumbing Done Right Today in Wilmington, Delaware.

Reedy’s obituary provides a glimpse into the kind of person he was. Recognized by all as caring, generous, and hard-working, he exuded positivity and strength. Many have come forward to share their personal experiences with Reedy, cementing his legacy as someone who brought energy and light wherever he went as reported.

In addition to his community and professional life, Reedy had a profound love for the outdoors, automobiles, and spending quality time with his dog. At the personal front, he was deeply in love with Emily, and the two were even in the initial stages of selecting a ring.

Reedy’s mother, Tracy, spoke about her son’s compassionate nature and how he consistently displayed Christ’s love to those around him. She believes that even in his passing, God is using this unfortunate incident as a platform to radiate the love of Christ according to statements.

Kevin Miller, the West Whiteland Fire Chief, expressed the immense loss the entire community feels due to this incident. In his words, they have “lost a valuable piece.” He also mentioned how both Reedy and Gindele were “a breath of fresh air” and depicted an immense willingness to learn and contribute as said.

The West Whiteland community, along with numerous others, mourns the untimely passing of a promising young person and prays for the recovery of Gindele. It’s a stark reminder of the sacrifices first responders are willing to make and the risks they undertake every day.
