On Monday, Emma Heming Willis shared details about her husband, Bruce Willis’ health status.
Bruce Willis, with a rich portfolio of roles in movies like “Die Hard,” “Pulp Fiction,” “The Sixth Sense,” and “Armageddon,” has long been a household name in Hollywood.
In the wake of his 2022 aphasia diagnosis, the family recently announced that Bruce is also managing frontotemporal dementia.
Engaging with Hoda Kotb on the “Today” show, Heming Willis said, “Dementia doesn’t just impact the person diagnosed but the entire family. It’s a condition that has wider implications.” She expanded on the multifaceted nature of grappling with her husband’s health, noting its upsides and downsides.
Emma touched on the challenge of determining Bruce’s full understanding of his state. Keeping Mabel and Evelyn, their two daughters aged 11 and 9, informed about their father’s health is crucial for her. Advocating for open communication in their family setting, she focuses on ensuring her children are educated about dementia, shielding them from potential misconceptions.
Opting to be termed as Bruce’s “care partner,” as opposed to caregiver, Heming Willis accentuated the enduring lessons Bruce imparts to their children, spotlighting values like “patience, resilience,” and fundamental concepts of “care and love.” She mentioned, “Bruce emphasizes cherishing the present.”
Previously, Bruce’s wider family, inclusive of his ex-wife, Demi Moore, and their three mature children, made his aphasia diagnosis public. Following this, the two-time Emmy recipient made the decision to bid adieu to his illustrious film career. The collective family communication highlighted Willis’ persistent drive to make a positive impact and address crucial subjects, showcasing his consistent character in both his work and personal life.
Over a career that covers more than three decades, Bruce Willis has embraced roles from John McClane in “Die Hard” to Dr. Malcolm Crowe in “The Sixth Sense.” His unique capabilities and dedication to his field have positioned him as a standout figure in film legacy.
