On Sunday, October 15, at a house on Edmore Street in Detroit, Michigan’s east side, a baby shower turned deadly when an argument between two women escalated into a fatal shooting.
While celebrating her niece’s forthcoming child, Phebe Williams, 53, became the center of a heated disagreement with another woman. The root of this conflict lay in allegations that the woman had made against Williams’ son.
Prior to the baby shower, the accuser had gone to the local police, claiming that Williams’ son had committed a crime.
The situation reached its boiling point at the event, with the accuser, who hadn’t been invited, showing up and confronting Williams. During their exchange, it is said that Williams struck the woman. The retaliation was swift and severe; the woman produced a gun and shot Williams.
In the chaotic aftermath, the shooter headed to the Detroit police 9th Precinct, seemingly to turn herself in. Williams’ son followed her to the police station and when she got out of her car he hit her with his car. Following this, both were taken into custody. The shooter also received medical attention due to injuries sustained from the collision.
In response to the unexpected event, a GoFundMe page was created to support the costs of Williams’ funeral. The page celebrates her life, describing her as a beacon of positivity for many. She leaves behind two sons and three grandchildren.
