The body of a five-year-old boy was discovered in a dumpster in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Prince McCree, five, had gone missing from his home just a day prior, igniting a frantic search by both his family and local law enforcement.
Prince was reported missing on October 25, and was last seen alive by his mother around 9 a.m. that same day. The ensuing search saw his parents and other community members combing the neighborhood door-to-door, desperately trying to locate the young child.
However, on Thursday, October 26, Prince’s body was found in a dumpster on the 5500 block of W. Vliet Street, near Hawley Road, a mile from his family’s home. The discovery was made at around 9 a.m., according to the Milwaukee Police Department.
The Milwaukee Police have subsequently launched a homicide investigation in relation to the child’s death. Prince’s cause of death remains undetermined and is still under investigation.
Two people have been taken into custody as persons of interest. These people are identified as a 27-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy. Reports indicate that both lived in the same multi-unit home as Prince and his family. However, their exact relationship to the victim remains undisclosed.
State Senator LaTonya Johnson, a community neighbor of Prince’s household, informed the media that the individuals in question live together. However, she clarified her uncertainty regarding their familial ties to the five-year-old and his relatives. She said that the parents of the boy were distraught.
The community’s mobilization, coupled with the rapid response from law enforcement, underscores the depth of concern and unity displayed during this tragic incident. A vigil for the boy was held this past weekend.
