On the evening of October 14, 2023, a shooting took place at the food court at the State Fair of Texas, adjacent to the fair’s Tower Building, resulting in three attendees getting injured. The incident transpired approximately at 7:45 pm.
Based on gathered reports, the confrontation originated between two individuals who knew each other. The suspect, named as 22-year-old Cameron Turner, faces charges of three counts of aggravated assault. The injured individuals, two men and a woman, were transported to a nearby hospital and are in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Immediately after the shooting, the Dallas Police Department responded. Officers succeeded in identifying and arresting Turner, securing the weapon believed to have been employed in the crime.
Though Turner argued self-defense, stating he aimed his weapon at the ground, some onlookers and sources, such as those from WFAA, challenge this narrative. They claim they saw Turner shoot one of the victims directly.
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson used social media to voice his distress and worry regarding the incident, underscoring the city’s strict policy against such behavior. He underscored the State Fair of Texas’s importance as a beacon of togetherness and festivity. Dallas City Council member Adam R. Bazaldua expressed apprehensions regarding firearm legislations that potentially facilitate public shootings. He emphasized the necessity for impactful firearm regulations to bolster public safety.
The State Fair of Texas’s standing policy prohibits the open carry of weapons. However, it does allow licensed attendees to carry firearms in a concealed fashion.
