Two individuals, a 28-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, died early Tuesday morning, September 5, when their blue Chrysler PT Cruiser crashed into a Los Angeles County Fire Department truck in West Compton, California.
The fire truck was on its way to respond to a medical emergency around 12:30 am before it was hit. Reports suggest that the two people in the other car might have been illegally street racing. As a result of the impact, the PT Cruiser was heavily damaged, especially at its front end.
The impact was severe enough that four firefighters had to be transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Though they sustained injuries, they are reported to be minor in nature. The identities of the deceased have yet to be publicly disclosed.
However, information in a preliminary report from the California Highway Patrol reveals the male victim resided in Signal Hill, situated northeast of Long Beach.
This accident also led to damage to three more vehicles nearby.
Fortunately, two of these vehicles were vacant at the time and no further injuries have been reported.
Officer Luis Quintero, speaking for the highway patrol, indicated that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact speed of each vehicle during the collision as speed might have played a factor in the collision.
