On September 8, 2022, the Royal family remembered the first anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death. However, Prince Harry decided against attending an event organized by his father, King Charles, at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Many viewed King Charles’ invitation as an attempt to improve their relationship, especially on such a significant date. Prince Harry mentioned his pre-existing travel plans as the cause for his non-participation. He had already made a commitment to be at the Invictus Games, an event important to him.
Instead of being at Balmoral with the Royal family, Prince Harry visited Queen Elizabeth’s burial site at Windsor Castle on his own, before the scheduled family gathering. After this, he headed to Germany for the Invictus Games, with wife Meghan Markle joining him a few days later.
Majesty Magazine’s Ingrid Seward provided insight into the situation, stating that invitations of such importance should ideally be considered above other engagements.
Additionally, Prince Harry had previously requested security and a place to stay in London for one night. This request was declined. It’s widely acknowledged that the relationship between Prince Harry and the Royal family has seen challenges. King Charles’ recent move could be an “olive branch.”
