A Norwegian man living in Arjang, Sweden has been convicted of storing his late wife’s body in a freezer to perpetuate the illusion of her being alive to collect her pension funds.
The accused, a 57-year-old whose identity has not been disclosed, hid his 60-year-old deceased wife’s body at their home for five years after she died from cancer in 2018.
It remains unclear how the accused had managed to keep his sinister secret hidden or how the authorities eventually discovered the crime. Her family was inquiring about her, but the man always found an excuse so they would not discover her death, finally telling relatives that she didn’t want to speak to them again. However, once the heinous act was uncovered, the man was arrested and brought to trial.
The wife’s pension and tax rebates had continued to be collected by the husband, and totaled about $116,000.
According to a report, the court sentenced the man to 3.5 years in prison for his actions and he was ordered to pay back the money he had received from her benefits.
