On September 9, Saturday, in Brooklyn, New York, a conflict over parking led to two individuals being shot.
The altercation took place in the parking zone of a Home Depot on Willoughby Avenue and Sanford Street in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. A verbal spat emerged between Cordel McDuffie, 35, and his girlfriend, Imani Sharpless, 26, and another man about parking. The unidentified man’s movement was accidentally blocked by McDuffie, which resulted in honking and a subsequent verbal fight.
Following their exit from the store at about 12:15 pm, they were confronted by the same individual, who shot them and fled.
The NYPD responded to a distress call about the incident. McDuffie was found with a gunshot injury to his right knee and was awake, whereas Sharpless was unconscious with a head injury. Immediate medical attention was sought at Kings County Hospital, with McDuffie in stable condition and Sharpless critically injured. Sharpless passed away from her head wound on Thursday.
The alleged assailant was described as having a dark complexion, approximately 5’6″ tall, and weighing around 160 pounds. He was wearing a white top, a red cap, and black denim pants. His last known direction was southward on Nostrand Avenue.
When interviewed, McDuffie portrayed Sharpless as a caring individual. Patrick Sharpless, Imani’s cousin, spoke of her ambitions in the music and modeling sectors.
Investigative measures are in progress.
