A football game in Utica, New York took a turn into a tragedy when a security guard was shot in the head. This incident occurred near the parking lot of Thomas R. Proctor High School just after 4 pm on the 9th of September.
Available footage of the incident shows a disagreement involving roughly 12 people, and a minimum of two gunshots is audible. Tragically, as the security guard endeavored to mediate in the argument, he became the direct victim of a gunshot. Immediate medical attention was sought, and he was taken to a nearby hospital where he remains in critical condition.
The individuals involved in the fight had previously been barred from watching the varsity football game against Binghamton High School by another security officer. Utica Police Chief Mark Williams remarked that the guard had apprehensions about this particular group, resulting in their denied entry. Notably, the attendees did not even reach the metal detectors installed at the stadium because they were turned away.
Initial investigations are pointing towards a lone shooter. A 16-year-old suspect has been arrested on weapons charges and attempted murder. Law enforcement is investigating, with gang-related motives being considered.
It’s disheartening to note that the incident at Utica isn’t unique. Recently, a Louisiana school football halftime saw a student’s death and another adult’s injury due to gunshots, leading to an 18-year-old’s arrest. Moreover, turmoil gripped an Oklahoma football event when a 16-year-old was shot, creating panic among the attendees and players
