72-Year-Old Surfer Dies at Daytona Beach

On Monday, September 11, a 72-year-old man died while surfing at Daytona Beach, Florida.

According to Volusia County Beach Safety, the incident occurred at around 10:30 am.

A nearby lifeguard observed him losing connection with his surfboard and trying to get back to it.

The lifeguard quickly approached the surfer, but he was unresponsive by the time she reached him. Several lifeguards came to assist, retrieving the man from the water and initiating medical procedures. Despite their efforts, the man was declared dead.

In light of recent weather patterns, including the influence of Hurricane Lee off the East Coast, authorities are urging locals to exercise caution in the water.

The following weeks are expected to witness strong rip currents, which pose a risk to beachgoers. The county’s advisory warned residents about the rising surf.

The incident was one of four reported at the beach on the same day.

In another event, surfers assisted a 48-year-old man who was unresponsive in the water. He was later taken by emergency services to a nearby hospital, where medical staff detected a pulse and began treatment.
