Washington DC was rocked by a violent episode September 27 when two men lost their lives, and three others were injured in a mass shooting.
The incident unfolded around 9:50 pm at the intersection of 14th Street and Saratoga Avenue.
Officers, upon arrival at the scene, discovered three men with gunshot injuries. Two were declared dead at the scene, while the third victim was rushed to a nearby hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. In a connected development, another local hospital reported two men seeking treatment for gunshot wounds. One of these individuals was listed in critical condition, and the other was stable.
Eyewitnesses recounted a chilling scene, with nearly 100 gunshots echoing through the streets, suggesting the use of automatic weapons. These gunshots reportedly occurred in three distinct bursts, all within a ten-minute frame.
Police are on the hunt for three individuals suspected of being behind the shooting. The DC Police, through a social media update, alerted the community to be on the lookout for three men in a grey SUV.
In her statement, acting Chief of Police Pamela A. Smith referred to “crew on crew” confrontations resulting from prior gang disputes.
Officers had been positioned just a block from the crime scene when the shots were fired.
A resident compared the harrowing episode to a “war zone.”
Authorities are calling on the residents to remain watchful and assist by reporting any suspicious activities or providing information related to the shooting.
