Early Thursday, August 31, on Route 32 near its intersection with I-95 in Maryland, a Greyhound bus and an SUV collided, resulting in one fatality and injuries to 18 people.
Howard County police confirmed that the Greyhound bus, traveling eastbound with 38 passengers, was struck head-on by a Buick Enclave SUV traveling westbound in the eastbound lane around 3:24 am.
The male driver of the Buick Enclave was pronounced dead at the scene. In total, 18 people, including the bus driver, sustained injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals. All injuries have been described as non-life threatening.
The accident occurred between Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, a major transport route.
As a result of the collision, the eastbound lane of Route 32 at its I-95 juncture was closed Thursday morning. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident.
The community was advised to seek alternative routes while the investigation is ongoing.
