On Sunday afternoon, August 20, in Poughkeepsie, New York, a man suffered critical injuries after being hit by a car, assaulted with a baseball bat, and stabbed during a violent street altercation that was captured on camera.
The incident began when two speeding vehicles recklessly drove down Pershing Avenue Park in the wrong direction around 3 pm. This resulted in a collision involving pedestrians and another vehicle.
One of the pedestrians hit by a car was subsequently attacked with a baseball bat and stabbed, police report.
Footage from bystanders circulating on social media shows a man repeatedly striking the victim, who was dressed in black, with a baseball bat. This attacker was also seen on camera punching the victim, screaming and cursing at him.
In the midst of the turmoil, another man was spotted in the background carrying a shotgun.
The exact relationships between those involved are still unclear. Authorities are working to piece together the sequence of events to find out if the victims were targeted.
Rakim Paulin, 43, from Beacon, and Jeremy Taylor, 40, from Poughkeepsie, have been arrested and charged with assault related to the incident. The critically injured stabbing victim was taken to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital. Another individual received treatment for injuries and was subsequently released.
Police are urging any witnesses who might have recorded the incident to assist with their ongoing investigation.
