A 33-year-old man from Salem, Massachusetts, was arrested and charged on August 8 with the alleged murder of his 20-year-old girlfriend while their two children were at home.
Pablo Vicente has been accused of the crime, but authorities are still searching for Nayeli Nieves body, according to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.
A relative of the accused told a Lynn police detective that Vicente had confessed to killing Nieves and disposing of her body near a dumpster in their apartment complex. This information led Salem police to search Nieves’ home, where they found evidence that supported the relative’s claim.
During police interrogation, Vicente allegedly admitted to choking Nieves following a dispute over accusations of infidelity. It’s reported that their two children, aged 9 months and 3 years, were present during the incident. Vicente reportedly kept the body in the apartment for three days before putting Nieves in a dumpster.
He allegedly did not inform authorities because he wanted to spend more time with his children. Surveillance footage shows Vicente possibly moving a body to a dumpster. However, subsequent searches produced no results, as the dumpster had already been emptied.
The Department of Children and Families has taken the children into custody. Court records indicate that Vicente was previously arrested in April for an alleged assault on Nieves.
Vicente pleaded not guilty during his arraignment in Salem District Court on August 8.
In response to the tragic situation, Nieves’ family has started a GoFundMe campaign to support her children, emphasizing her dedication as a mother.
