A Pennsylvania mother of two died in an accident on Friday, August 11, while attending the Union County West End Fair in Laurelton.
The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. during a tractor-pull event.
Brandy Horner, 33, was struck in the neck by a piece of an exhaust wheel that had become dislodged and ejected from a tractor’s metal covering, according to a press release from the Pennsylvania State Police. The impact caused fatal injuries.
Horner received immediate medical attention at the scene and was transported to Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg. However, she died less than an hour after the incident, Union County Coroner Dominick Adamo confirmed.
Dennis Boop, president of the Union County West End Fair, revealed that there was no protective fencing around the track where the accident occurred. He described the incident as a “freak accident.” Police investigations concluded that the tractor had an equipment malfunction, and there was no suspicion of foul play or criminality.
Brandy Horner is survived by her husband and their two sons. According to her obituary, “Her world revolved around her family.” Horner worked at The Learning Lamp in Richland, where she was a passionate advocate for early education.
Following the accident, the fair organizers canceled all events at the pulling track for the day. However, the remainder of the fair, including the PACE tractor pulls and parade, continued.
