A 51-year-old woman lost her life after being struck by a swerving vehicle and a line of mailboxes in East Hanover Township, Pennsylvania, on August 22.
Jill Staub, a New Oxford resident, was fatally injured in the accident, as reported by Pennsylvania State Police.
State troopers promptly responded to the distress call about the fatality around 3:50 pm. During the investigation, it was revealed that a 62-year-old man was driving westbound when his vehicle collided with a concrete barrier on the left side. The impact propelled the vehicle further west, causing it to veer into the right lane.
The vehicle veered off the road and onto the shoulder, crashing into a row of mailboxes situated in a grassy area. Jill Staub was struck by both the vehicle and the mailboxes.
She was found amidst the debris along the shoulder and right lane. Despite immediate attention, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The vehicle’s path of destruction continued as it plowed through the grass, eventually colliding with a utility pole with enough force to snap the pole in half. The vehicle finally came to a halt after the collisions.
The driver sustained minor injuries and he was transported to a local hospital for medical care.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident and are treating it as a possible case of driving under the influence (DUI).
