On August 8, a 52-year-old Seattle Uber driver was fatally shot during a carjacking.
The driver was identified as Amare Geda. Ne’iana Allen-Bailey, 18, has been arrested on suspicion of involvement.
The event unfolded at about 3:30 am with Geda inside his Toyota Prius. It’s alleged that Allen-Bailey approached, shot Geda, and then left the scene in the stolen vehicle.
After a three-day investigation, which found no connection between the suspect and Geda’s rideshare activities, Allen-Bailey was arrested. She reportedly used the Prius for multiple errands in the days following the incident, including having her hair done.
Geda, a dedicated worker and father of two, had been balancing two jobs for 14 years, driving for Uber and Lyft at night and working at an airport during the day.
The Seattle Rideshare Drivers Association expressed their sorrow, pointing out Geda’s unwavering work ethic. A GoFundMe campaign, set up to help with funeral costs and support for his family has collected over $68,000.
On August 11, Allen-Bailey was booked into jail, with her bond established at $2 million.
