A 31-year-old South Carolina social studies teacher at Wagener-Salley High School lost her life on August 23 as she was struck by a utility pole.
The incident occurred in Wagener, South Carolina when a passing tractor-trailer collided with power lines at an intersection, sending a utility pole hurtling toward Jeunelle Robinson during her lunch break. Despite her attempts to evade the airborne pole, the accident proved fatal.
Witnesses recounted Robinson’s valiant effort to escape the unforeseeable danger. After being taken to Aiken Regional Medical Centers and then transferred to Augusta University Medical Center, Robinson was pronounced dead.
Robinson’s grieving family, represented by Bamberg Legal LLC, is demanding justice for her death. Alleging that inadequate utility pole inspections were to blame for the incident, they are seeking $100 million for her estate and urging utility companies to allocate $20 million toward enhancing local power infrastructure.
Additionally, they propose a $10 million trust to set up an annual scholarship in Robinson’s name, benefiting Aiken County college students aspiring to become educators.
Representative Justin Bamberg, the family’s attorney, asserts that this incident could have been prevented.
He places responsibility squarely on the utility companies overseeing the poles at the intersection, condemning their negligence.
Wagener-Salley High School mourns the loss of a cherished educator, leading to the cancellation of football and volleyball games, as well as an open house, in tribute to Robinson.
