In the latest episode of the “Heart of Invictus” series, Prince Harry candidly discusses his emotional journey after the loss of his mother, Princess Diana, in a newly released Netflix documentary.
The Duke of Sussex, who is also the executive producer of the show, shared a personal moment with Darrell Ling, a Canadian athlete participating in the Invictus Games.
During their conversation, both men opened up about their respective traumas. Darrell expressed gratitude that Harry could empathize with him about his feelings.
Harry revealed that after his mother’s death when he was 12, he struggled to express his emotions. He confessed that he couldn’t cry or feel anything until a turning point at the age of 28 when emotions “sprayed everywhere.”
Harry recounted the advice of a therapist who suggested envisioning himself in a “glass jar” to control what emotions he lets in or out.
The documentary also delves into Harry’s struggles after returning from war in 2008, highlighting the lack of support available to him during that challenging period. He expressed his desire to change the stigma around seeking therapy, stating, that most people only consider therapy when they are down on the floor wishing they dealt with the situation much earlier.
The “Heart of Invictus” series has been released as part of Harry and Meghan’s deal with Netflix. It offers a glimpse into Harry’s personal experiences and his commitment to mental health support, coinciding with the upcoming Invictus Games scheduled for September 9 in Dusseldorf, Germany. The series sheds light on Harry’s journey and resonates with those who have faced similar emotional challenges.
