A man fell to his death from the Deutsche Bank Center in the heart of New York City on Thursday night, August 17.
According to police, the man plummeted about 750 feet before striking the marquee of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
The impact caused the man’s body to split in two, with parts of his remains found across the street. Glass and debris from the damaged marquee littered the sidewalk in the area known as Billionaire’s Row in Columbus Circle. The victim was dressed in pajamas at the time of the incident.
An unidentified building worker, who claimed the man lived in the building, said, “The marquee cut him in half.” The worker also suggested that the man may have used the service elevator to access the top of the building. Police are still investigating the identity of the man and have not yet confirmed his residence in the building.
The Deutsche Bank Center is home to some of the city’s most luxurious apartments, with prices ranging between $5 million and $19 million. The building has previously housed high-profile residents such as Jay-Z, Tom Brady, and Chicago Cubs owner Joe Ricketts.
This incident comes just months after a 31-year-old senior engineer at Google jumped from the 14th floor of the company headquarters in New York City. The man was found unconscious near the building on 111 Eighth Avenue and was later pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital.
