A former NFL running back, Alex Collins, has died at 28 years old following a motorcycle collision in Miami, Florida.
Alex Collins was riding his Suzuki Motor GSX-R600K when he crashed into the rear passenger side of a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban SUV. He was propelled through the car’s window and was declared dead at the scene. The incident occurred just days before Collins would have celebrated his 29th birthday on August 26.
Drafted in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, Collins was initially selected by the Seattle Seahawks. He appeared in 11 games during his rookie season with the Seahawks before joining the Baltimore Ravens for two seasons, from 2017 to 2018. As a Raven, he played in 25 games, starting 22 of them.
Beyond his football skills, Collins was known for his passion for Irish dancing, which he adopted to maintain fitness and improve his agility. Former teammate Robert Griffin III, who played alongside Collins in Baltimore, shared a video of the ex-running back performing an Irish dance on social media and accompanied it with a heartfelt tribute. Griffin expressed his gratitude for the moments he shared with Collins.
Russell Wilson, who was once Collins’ teammate with the Seahawks and currently plays as a quarterback for the Denver Broncos, also paid his respects to Collins on Twitter.
The NFL, Baltimore Ravens, Seattle Seahawks, and Arkansas Razorbacks, where Collins played in college, all extended their condolences in public statements.
Kelli Masters, Collins’ agent, expressed her grief on Twitter, praising Collins for his unwavering optimism, big smile, and perseverance in the face of adversity.
