An RV lost a tire on a Pennsylvania interstate. It crossed a median and collided with a tractor-trailer, leading to five fatalities.
The head-on crash occurred Wednesday night, August 9 at about 8:50 pm in the northbound lane of Interstate 81, near Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. The RV was towing a trailer and the tractor-trailer was towing double trailers.
The collision led to the death of four people on board the RV, as well as the truck driver.
The RV victims included four people from the same family: Donald, Kimberly, Miranda and Dane Molander from Middletown, Pennsylvania.
The truck driver was identified as James Shade, from Martinsburg, West Virginia.
All five were declared dead at the scene of the accident. A dog was also killed in the accident.
Law enforcement agencies conducted an investigation into the scene, aiming to reconstruct the events leading to the accident. The road was subsequently closed for ten hours.
