A man from Diamond Bar, California, has been charged with the murder of two elderly women at an assisted living facility.
District Attorney George Gascón of Los Angeles County announced on Tuesday, June 27, that 40-year-old Jianchun Li has been indicted with two counts of murder.
The victims, Monica Moon Lee, 75, and Hee Sook Park, 83, were both inhabitants of the Happy Home Care center in Diamond Bar. Their bodies were discovered on June 24, prompting an immediate call to action by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department.
Reflecting on the violent and shocking event, District Attorney Gascón emphasized the urgent need for heightened monitoring and vigilance in such facilities. Gascón shared his condolences with the relatives of the victims and assured them of unwavering efforts in the pursuit of justice.
The incident was reported to the police at 8:05 am on June 24. Upon arrival, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department declared both victims dead. Subsequent investigations suggested that the alleged perpetrator was Jianchun Li, who was employed as a live-in caregiver at the home.
The incident has triggered an investigation by the California Department of Social Services (CDSS). Jason Montiel, a spokesperson for the CDSS, noted that the center remains operational, catering to its four remaining residents, while the investigation continues.
Jianchun Li is being held in the county jail on a bond of $4 million.
