In an incident at a dog park, a miniature dachshund named Lola and her owner, bodybuilder Isabelle Payne, narrowly escaped death when they were viciously attacked by a large bull terrier.
The incident happened on the Gold Coast in Australia just a few weeks ahead of Payne’s planned wedding, intensifying an already stressful period.
Payne, accompanied by her fiancé Jacob Thirkettle, and her three year old pup Lola were spending time at the park when the unexpected attack occurred. Both Lola and Payne suffered serious injuries, with Payne enduring scratches, bruises, and bites in her efforts to protect Lola. Facing their upcoming wedding, Thirkettle initiated a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for Lola’s medical expenses.
Thirkettle expressed appreciation to those who came forward to assist them, ensuring Lola’s survival. After the incident, Lola was taken immediately to the vet and underwent surgery to treat deep cuts on her back and close to her ribs. While the surgery was successful, Lola still has a long road to recovery requiring continuous medical care.
The couple’s GoFundMe campaign exceeded its initial goal of $2,000, raising an extra $520 from generous Australians. Thirkettle and Payne, deeply touched by the overwhelming support, thanked everyone for their contributions and encouraging messages. They also shared an update on Lola’s condition through a video on Instagram, which also showed their other dachshund, who hasn’t left Lola’s side since the accident.
