New York Police Department officials say a 23-year-old woman lost her life on Saturday evening following a leap from a building situated in lower Manhattan.
The police responded to a distress call at around 5:11 pm on Saturday, June 3, involving an unconscious woman who had fallen from a building located at 39 Walker Street in the Tribeca neighborhood. She was transferred to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition, and was later declared dead, as per the official police statement.
Information released indicates that the woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, demonstrated peculiar behavior before she jumped from the fourth-floor window. While visiting New York City, she reportedly went into the Bortolami art gallery, which is housed in the lower two floors of the same building in Tribeca.
Instead of remaining within the gallery, she went up to the fourth floor and hastily jumped out of a window, landing in the backyard. The source further detailed that the woman acted in an erratic manner, removed the blinds, pushed open the window, and jumped out.
The events leading up to the incident and the motivations behind her unfortunate fall are not yet clear. A large number of police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel were observed at the incident site.
Saturdays typically draw a large crowd to the popular NYC gallery, and visitors are permitted to move freely between the first and second floors via an open hallway. However, the fourth floor, which houses apartments valued at $2.5 million, is generally inaccessible.
A local resident shared their concern over the incident, stating that they had experienced a sleepless night, tormented by the image of someone jumping from the building.
