Nine people were injured after a mass shooting that authorities described as a targeted and isolated incident occurred on Friday night in San Francisco’s Mission District.
The police have not apprehended a suspect and believe all the victims are expected to survive.
San Francisco police responded to the shooting near the 24th Street and Treat Avenue intersection shortly after 9 pm on Friday, June 9. The incident occurred during a block party organized to commemorate the sixth anniversary of a clothing store called Dying Breed.
At approximately 11:20 pm, law enforcement confirmed that nine people had sustained injuries due to what they classified as a deliberate shooting. According to a statement from Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, one victim remained in critical condition, another was in serious condition, four were in good condition, and three had already been discharged. According to the hospital, the victims were eight men and one woman.
Since the incident appeared to be targeted and confined, the authorities assured that there was no known threat to the public. A witness at the scene shared the harrowing experience, recounting the sudden shift in the atmosphere during the block party.
Raymond Hou described observing blood and bodies on the floor while looking down from the rooftop. He mentioned that only ten minutes earlier, he had been in the same location without encountering any issues.
Police Chief William Scott assured the community that investigators were working on the case and that there would be increased police visibility in the affected area.
