A newlywed man tragically drowned during his honeymoon in Hawaii.
Steven Phan and his wife Brittany were enjoying their post-wedding celebration in Honolulu on June 1 when the incident occurred. Phan went snorkeling at Electric Beach, where he tragically disappeared beneath the waves.
Quickly responding to the incident, a spear fisherman managed to bring the victim to shore and bystanders immediately started CPR until first responders arrived, according to reports. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, Phan could not be revived.
To compound the couple’s tragedy, thieves exploited the ensuing chaos and made off with all of the couple’s personal belongings, which included their cell phones, wallets, cash, and even their rental car. This harrowing event was shared on a GoFundMe page created to support Phan’s widow.
In response to public calls for improved safety measures, Honolulu authorities have announced plans to install a new lifeguard stand at Electric Beach. This follows community concerns about the inadequate number of responders at the city’s beaches, sparked by the loss of Steven Phan.
