A man from Texas has been taken into custody and charged after allegedly shooting and killing his common-law wife in the presence of her nine-year-old daughter, according to authorities.
The incident occurred at an apartment complex in Houston on Sunday evening, June 11, prompting a response from the Houston Police Department.
Upon arriving at the scene just before 8 pm, officers discovered a 29-year-old woman with an apparent gunshot wound. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene. The victim has been identified as Jasmine McHenry by relatives and court records.
The suspect, Thomas Wilson Alexander, 32, was later apprehended and charged with murder in connection with the shooting, as confirmed by the Houston Police Department. The victim’s nine-year-old daughter reportedly witnessed the entire horrifying event. The young girl recounted that her mother had urged her to call her grandmother as the violence escalated. During the phone call, McHenry informed her mother that Alexander had grabbed a firearm, expressing fear for her life.
Cynthia Demerson, McHenry’s mother, rushed to the scene upon hearing the distressing news from her granddaughter. Nonetheless, Demerson arrived too late to prevent the fatal outcome.
Jasmine McHenry, described as a beautiful, hardworking, and vibrant young mother of two, leaves behind a three-year-old son, according to a GoFundMe page established to assist with her funeral expenses. The page laments her untimely death, stating that she did not deserve such a tragic end.
The suspect, Thomas Wilson Alexander, is currently held at Harris County Jail on a bond of $1 million.
