An owner of a crocodile farm lost his life while attempting to handle one of his crocodiles.
The incident occurred at Luan Nam’s crocodile farm in Siem Reap commune, Cambodia, and was confirmed by local police chief Mey Savry. Nam was 72 years of age.
According to a report by Viral Press, Nam had entered the crocodile pen with the intent to relocate a crocodile that had recently laid eggs. The situation escalated fatally when the crocodile lunged towards the stick Nam was wielding, causing him to stumble and fall.
Following his fall, an estimated group of 40 crocodiles attacked Nam, resulting in his death. Chief Savry characterized the incident as a gruesome accident, highlighting the unyielding nature of the crocodiles’ assault.
Graphic photographs from the scene showcased the crocodiles navigating a pool of Nam’s blood. A harrowing video recorded the officials’ challenging task of retrieving Nam’s remains.
The autopsy findings, confirmed by Chief Savry, indicated multiple bite marks on Nam’s body, with his arms and a leg consumed by the crocodiles.
Nam’s body was returned to his residence where his grieving family awaited. In addition to being a crocodile farmer, Nam served as the president of the local crocodile farmers’ association and had been advised numerous times over the years to retire from the hazardous occupation.
Regrettably, this isn’t an isolated incident in Cambodia. A toddler was killed in a similar incident in 2019 when she accidentally fell into a crocodile pit on her family’s farm.
