Conor McGregor, the renowned MMA fighter, is facing accusations of sexual assault that allegedly occurred on June 10 in Miami.
The victim’s lawyer, Ariel Mitchell, has claimed that the NBA and Miami Heat, as well as the Miami Police Department, mishandled the case.
Speaking to a news outlet, Attorney Mitchell said that NBA officials attempted to suppress the incident and allegedly offered the victim $100,000 in hush money, which they later withdrew. The NBA’s chief communications officer, Mike Bass, has denied these allegations. Miami Heat has not commented on the issue.
The lawyer also raised concerns about the Miami Police Department’s handling of the case. According to Mitchell, the police discouraged the victim from filing a report, stating it would go viral. The victim finally lodged a complaint on June 14.
The Miami Police Department has denied turning the victim away. Officer Michael Vega said that the case was opened on June 11 and that the victim had to return to give additional information.
The incident allegedly occurred after an NBA Finals game between the Denver Nuggets and the Miami Heat, where McGregor was present. The victim claims that McGregor sexually assaulted her in a bathroom with security guards outside. McGregor has denied the allegations.
Currently, he is recovering from a broken leg and is expected to fight Michael Chandler later this year.
The victim has since left Miami due to safety concerns after her lawyer started receiving death threats.
