American Tourist Killed in Attack Near Famous German Castle

An American tourist was killed and another was injured near Germany’s famous “Sleeping Beauty” Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria.

On Wednesday, June 14, a shocking event transpired near Marienbruecke, a pedestrian bridge known for its striking views of Neuschwanstein, the enchanting castle behind Disney’s film “Sleeping Beauty.”

In the aftermath, the Bavarian State Police released a thorough report of the incident.

The report revealed that while on a trail situated east of the bridge, two American females, aged 21 and 22, crossed paths with a 30-year-old American man. The man persuaded the women to accompany him to a scenic overlook, only to then viciously attack the younger woman. When the 22-year-old tried to intervene, she was choked and pushed down a sharp incline. The man also attempted to sexually assault the 21-year-old before forcing her down the same incline. The police revealed that the fall for both women was approximately 165 feet.

Prompt response from the mountain rescue team from Fuessen, a nearby town, allowed the 22-year-old to be rescued while still responsive and transported to the hospital. Tragically, the 21-year-old’s injuries were fatal. Despite being airlifted to a hospital, she eventually succumbed to her injuries.

After the incident, the suspect attempted to flee but was quickly captured by the police. Names of the individuals involved have not been disclosed, but a Bavarian State Police spokesperson confirmed all were American tourists.

The suspect was presented to a judge in the neighboring town of Kempten on Thursday, June 14, and ordered to remain in custody pending formal indictment. He is currently under investigation for charges including murder, attempted murder, and sexual assault.
