A two-year-old girl, previously reported missing, was tragically discovered dead in a well near her daycare center.
The discovery occurred at Watch Me Grow Day Care in Cobourg, Ontario last Thursday, May 25, when Claire, the child’s mother, arrived to collect her. Daycare staff had not realized the toddler, Vienna Rose Irwin, was missing until her mother came.
Vienna was found in a nearby well about an hour into an intense search effort.
Eyewitnesses recounted a distressing scene as daycare workers and police frantically sought the missing child.
The Ontario Provincial Police confirmed the incident, stating a child reported missing from an address in Hamilton Township was subsequently found deceased. A thorough investigation is now underway. In collaboration with Ontario’s chief coroner, police are examining all factors leading up to the toddler’s death. Daycare staff are fully participating in the ongoing investigation.
Watch Me Grow Day Care, a fully licensed facility per the Ministry of Education, has a clean record with no major incidents reported previously.
In response to the heartbreaking incident, a GoFundMe campaign was set up and has already attracted significant support, raising over $120,000 to date.
