A street party in Saginaw, Michigan, about 102 miles northwest of Detroit, turned into a scene of violence and chaos on June 25, leaving two people dead and a dozen injured.
A 19-year-old male and a 51-year-old female were the unfortunate victims of an incident that erupted shortly past midnight on Sunday.
The event had gained significant attention on social media platforms, according to state police, attracting a considerable gathering. Law enforcement approximated around 200 attendees were present when efforts were made to dissolve the crowd. However, the situation quickly degenerated into turmoil before control could be established.
The festivities were disrupted by gunfire, presumed to have started as a result of an argument between some revelers, triggering a mass scramble as party-goers sought to escape the danger. Amid the ensuing panic, three people were struck by moving vehicles, resulting in injuries. The investigation has unearthed evidence of multiple firearms being discharged during the event, with traces of five distinct weapons identified.
The street party was promoted on social media as “Freaknik 23.”
