A young college graduate’s life was abruptly and tragically ended in a devastating accident on the same day as his graduation.
On Sunday, May 7, 22-year-old Ian Brunner, a recent graduate of the University of Dayton in Ohio, had just received his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering when the unfortunate incident took place.
Brunner was doing a repair on his car on campus when, suddenly, the vehicle collapsed on top of him. A witness promptly called 911 at around 7 pm, informing the dispatcher that the jack supporting the vehicle had failed, causing Brunner to become trapped underneath.
Emergency services arrived at the student housing complex and found Brunner pinned under his car. Despite their earnest attempts to save him, the young man had already suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
A memorial for Brunner was held at the University of Dayton’s Campus Ministry. His funeral was held in Sewickley, Pennsylvania.
Such accidents often result from improper use of car jacks or insufficient support systems. When a jack fails or slips, it can lead to the vehicle collapsing suddenly, pinning the person underneath. These incidents underscore the importance of using reliable and sturdy jacks, as well as ensuring proper positioning and stability before attempting to change a tire.
