In a miraculous example of perfect timing, a pregnant woman walking her dog saved a toddler from plunging to his death from the second story of a Des Moines apartment building.
The pregnant woman, named Kyrie Jones, 35, was walking her dog on Monday, May 8, when she saw a toddler throwing things from a second-story window. The two-year-old boy leaned over the edge of the window, and Jones immediately tried to alert someone in the home on Merle Hay Road. She called the police for help when she didn’t receive a response.
When Jones went back to the scene, she saw that the little boy had tumbled out of the window and was hanging onto a ledge. She stood underneath the child, screaming for help and hoping someone would hear her. Sadly, nobody heard the child’s crying and her screams, and the toddler lost his grip and fell toward the ground. Fortunately, Jones caught him just before he hit the concrete.
The police arrived shortly after, and the boy’s mother eventually came outside. The child’s mother had left him unattended for a short time, which led to the incident. According to Sergeant Paul Parizek, the Des Moines Police Department spokesman, the matter was referred to the Health and Human Services Department in Iowa, but no charges have been filed.
Jones told a local news outlet that she was glad she was in the right place and was able to break the toddler’s fall. She said that if she had arrived any later, she might have found the child lying on the ground.
