On Thursday, May 4, a security camera at a McDonald’s in Moultrie, South Georgia, captured a horrifying event. The video footage showed 26-year-old Kentavious White, who is suspected of killing his mother and grandmother, and later shooting his manager before taking his own life.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation reported that the McDonald’s security footage depicted White coaxing store manager, 41-year-old Amia Smith, to the door before shooting her. He then entered the restaurant and turned the gun on himself. Upon arrival, police discovered both White and Smith dead.
Further inquiries led authorities to two nearby homes, situated less than two miles from the scene, where two women related to White had also been shot. Tragically, both women died from their injuries, with one passing away at the hospital. Colquitt County Coroner C. Verlyn Brock confirmed that all three women had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The family victims were identified as White’s mother, Susie Arnold, 50, and his grandmother, Hilda Marshall, 74.
The Moultrie police enlisted the help of the Bureau to spearhead the ongoing investigation, a standard procedure for major crimes in Georgia.
A neighbor residing next door to White and his family, disclosed that his wife had heard gunshots before 1 am on Thursday. He recalled an earlier incident in the week when the suspect had fired a gun outside while yelling, prompting a response from the Moultrie police. However, he said, when the most recent incident occurred, it seemed that the police did not respond immediately. The neighbor noted that law enforcement and an ambulance arrived shortly before 6 am. He confessed to not knowing his neighbors well, although White had sought his advice on erecting a fence when he moved in several years prior. The man added that he had never observed any violent behavior from White before.
Police investigator Nathan Cato, quoted in The Moultrie Observer, said that White had been involved in a gunfight with a man in his neighborhood during his lunch break on Tuesday. No injuries were reported in the fight.
