An Idaho man was sentenced for the murder of his newborn son.
Thomas Rowley, 25, has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after a minimum of 25 years for the first-degree murder of his four-month-old son, Milo Rowley. The decision was made by Ada County District Judge James S. Cawthon on Monday, May 22, according to a press release from the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities revealed that on June 20, 2020, the police discovered that Rowley had subjected his infant son to severe shaking, followed by dropping him face first into his crib, resulting in a fatal brain injury. Shockingly, Rowley did not seek medical attention for his son until four hours after the incident.
The child was rushed to St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center, but he was unresponsive and not breathing on arrival. Medical examination confirmed the presence of a severe brain injury, and despite medical efforts, the infant died at the hospital. Rowley was arrested by the Boise Police.
Investigations revealed that Rowley had allegedly physically assaulted and shaken Milo on several occasions prior to the fatal incident. In September 2020, Rowley pleaded not guilty to the charges. However, after a jury trial held in March 2023, he was found guilty of first-degree murder.
Ada County Prosecutor Jan Bennetts expressed her condolences to Milo’s mother and family, acknowledging the deep loss they have suffered. She said, “I recognize no sentence handed down today can ease the unbearable loss to Milo’s family.”
