A 34-year-old Florida man, Anthony Michael Corrado, is currently in police custody, facing charges of heinous assault on his grandparents with a hammer.
The brutal attack led to the death of his 82-year-old grandmother and left his grandfather severely injured. Adding to the shocking details, Corrado attempted to enlist a housekeeper’s help in cleaning up the grim crime scene.
On Wednesday, May 17, Corrado was arrested and charged with second-degree murder without premeditation, indicating a depraved indifference to human life, and intentional battery causing bodily harm.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office reported that the victim, Corrado’s grandmother, had an active protection order against him at the time of her death.
According to a redacted probable cause affidavit, around 2:25 pm on May 17, Corrado contacted a housekeeper. He informed her about the horrific incident at his grandparents’ residence, emphasizing an immediate need for assistance to clean up. When questioned about his grandmother, he chillingly informed her, “She was gone.”
Upon her arrival at the home, the housekeeper noticed bloodstains on both the floor and Corrado. He led her to a bedroom where she found a blue tarp covering what appeared to be a human form. She reported hearing faint sounds, similar to someone breathing through a respirator, coming from under the tarp. As she attempted to remove a plastic bag covering the figure’s head, Corrado stopped her, fearing additional blood spillage.
Corrado then purportedly asked the housekeeper to help dispose of the body and disable the home’s security cameras. Despite her suggestions to call the police, Corrado rejected the idea, expressing fear of returning to prison. He emphasized the need to clean the house before his grandfather returned from grocery shopping.
Feeling threatened, the housekeeper left under the pretense of getting cleaning supplies from her vehicle. She was able to flag down a passing deputy and report the incident.
Multiple deputies quickly arrived at the scene, and upon entering the house, they found the grandfather wrapped in a blanket, showing severe head and back injuries consistent with hammer blows. Fortunately, he survived the assault.
At the time of his arrest, Corrado was found heavily splattered with blood, evident on his shirt, shorts, boots, shins, and forehead.
