A hiker died after falling from a waterfall while on a trail on Friday in Southern California.
The Kern County Fire Department received reports of a hiker falling from the Waterfall Trail in Pine Mountain Club on Woodland Drive at around 2:30 pm on Friday, May 5.
Upon receiving the call, 20 rescue workers hiked half a mile to the waterfall where the victim had fallen about 10 feet. When the rescue team reached the victim, they discovered that he was situated approximately 30 feet above the base of the falls on a rock outcropping and had suffered a fatal medical emergency. A complex rope system was then created to transport the body from the elevated position on the rock outcropping to the base of the falls.
The rescue crews took the victim from the hiking area and transported him to the Kern County coroner. The police have not publicly identified the man, and officials have not provided any details about his injuries after the fall that led to his death.
According to officials, no safety or rescue personnel were injured during the operation.
