A tragic event unfolded at a Washington high school, where a student died during a gym class.
Cheney Public Schools Superintendent Ben Ferney announced the heartbreaking news that 16-year-old sophomore Brayden Bahme succumbed to a severe injury sustained during a physical education lesson.
Fire officials reported that Bahme was accidentally impaled in the eye after colliding with a goalpost while running. The school later confirmed this account.
Emergency responders reached the scene just before 2 pm on Thursday, April 27, and rushed the unconscious teenager to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center. Tragically, Bahme’s injuries proved fatal.
Family and friends held a touching candlelight vigil on Monday, May 1, at 6 pm at Crunk’s Field in Cheney to commemorate Brayden’s life. Mourners wore blue clothing to honor Brayden’s love for fishing. Attendees were also asked to bring fishing-related items to donate to a youth fishing organization in Brayden’s memory.
Over $30,000 has been raised on a GoFundMe page, with the school stating that any leftover funds will go towards the youth fishing program, keeping Brayden’s passion alive.
